What is Confined Space?
Confined space means any place, including any chamber, tank, vat, silo,
pit, pipe, sewer, flue, well, or other similar space, in which, by virtue
of its enclosed nature there is a foreseeable risk of:
- Fire or explosion
- The loss of consciousness or asphyxiation of any person at work
there arising from gas, fumes, vapour or lack of oxygen
- The drowning of any person at work there
- The asphyxiation of any person at work there arising from a free
flowing solid (e.g. grain)
- The loss of consciousness of any person at work there arising from
high ambient temperature
What type of business will need this training?
Any business with confined spaces that must be entered periodically
for cleaning, maintenance or inspection are responsible to ensure workers
are trained in emergency procedures. An example of the types of businesses
we have trained include the following:
- Offshore/Marine transportation
- Pulp and Paper
- Petrochemical
- Water and Sewage
- Transport vessels
